- Immediate access to emotional support from the safety and security
of the closest telephone
- Callers can express their thoughts and feelings as confidentially
or as anonymously as they choose.
- Caller's issues include problems related to domestic violence, social
isolation, suicide, addictions, mental and physical health concerns.
Distress Centres of Toronto offer emotional support, crisis intervention,
suicide prevention and linkage to emergency help when necessary.
- Since 1967, we have been there for our callers 24 hours a day, 7 days
a week, 365 days a year. Every year more than 100,000 calls are answered
and volunteers contribute 100,000 hours.
- 60% of our calls are taken after business hours and on weekends, when
other agencies are closed. We provide backup for many health and social
service programmes.
- We can access a confidential interpreter for you, if you are in crisis.
This service is offered in 151 languages and we have TTY service for
the hearing impaired.
