Distress Centres works in partnership with agencies in the community to help develop the skills of others working in the industry. While we do not collect comparable data we recognise that we get more requests for education and skills training than other agencies.

Outcomes for the Community Education and Outreach program include building capacity in the area of emotional resiliency through education and consultation, by working with community agencies to develop local emotional safety nets and supporting individuals experiencing crisis, risk to emotional well-being and/or the aftermath of traumatic events or loss.
Our outcomes – quantified
85% of workshop participants rated the sessions as helpful / satisfactory or better. Many of our education requests are repeat invitations or referrals from other participants.

Short Term: 1. Distress Centres develops and delivers comprehensive, culturally relevant training materials on request. 2. Distress Centres trained agency personal feel more competent and confident in supporting clients at risk. 3. An increase in referrals to our programs from diverse community sources. 4. Distress Centres participates collaboratively in community networks organized to respond to neighbourhood/community crisis, suicide prevention and sudden violent death.
Long Term: 1. To increase the effectiveness of service to those who are in crisis or at risk for suicide/life-threatening behaviour by increasing the awareness, knowledge and skills among professionals and communities. 2. To build community capacity through creating awareness of our service in Toronto's diverse communities.
